The Negroni was invented by Count Camillo Negroni in 1919 at Bar Casoni in Florence, when he demanded the bartender strengthen his favourite cocktail — the Americano — by replacing soda water with gin. As bitter as it is sweet, it is a classic stirred-down sipping drink, perfect both as an aperitif and a digestif.
