Peychaud’s Bitters is a classical cocktail bitter from New Orleans, originally crafted in the early 19th century by apothecary Antoine Amédée Peychaud. Distilled with botanicals including gentian root, anise, dark cherry, and a hint of mint, this aromatic bitter is bright‑red in colour and immediately recognizable.
With a 35% ABV, Peychaud’s is designed not to be sipped solo, but to be used in measured dashes in cocktails. Its unique profile—anise‑forward with cherry and citrus undertones—makes it integral to classic serves like the iconic Sazerac, where it’s considered a defining ingredient. A few drops elevate whiskies, ryes, gins or brandies with clarity, colour and character.
