Over Half a Century in the Barrel — A Calvados of Extraordinary Rarity
Lemorton 1971 Calvados Domfrontais is a breathtaking vintage expression from one of Normandy's most respected family domaines. Distilled in 1971 and aged for over 50 years in oak, this is a bottle of genuine historical significance — a liquid time capsule from an era when Domaine Lemorton was already quietly producing some of the finest apple and pear spirits in France.
Domaine Lemorton is based in the Domfrontais appellation, where pears (poiré) must make up at least 30% of the blend by law, lending their calvados a distinctive floral elegance and silky texture that sets it apart from the more apple-dominant Pays d'Auge style. After more than five decades of slow maturation, this 1971 expression has evolved into something truly profound.
The nose is complex and deeply layered — dried orchard fruits, polished leather, old oak, candied orange peel, and a delicate floral lift. On the palate, the texture is extraordinarily silky, with waves of stewed apple, quince, dark honey, toasted walnut, and subtle spice. The finish is endlessly long, refined, and contemplative. A calvados to savour slowly, in good company.
