Collection: Genever

Holland's national spirit: young and old genever, korenwijn and barrel-aged malt wine from Dutch distillers like Rutte, Zuidam, Van Wees and Kalkwijck. Sip it neat from a tulip glass or use it in a Dutch twist on classic cocktails.

Genever is the Dutch original that gin grew out of. It is distilled from moutwijn (malt wine) made from rye, wheat and malted barley, which gives it a rounder, bready character than London Dry gin. Jonge genever is the lighter, cleaner style; oude genever and korenwijn contain more malt wine and are often aged in oak, for a richer, whisky-like glass.

Our shelves cover the whole spectrum, from Zuidam, Kalkwijck and Hoppe jonge genevers to Van Wees Zeer Oude, Rutte Koornwyn XO, rye genevers from LangDom and Beek, and French genièvre from Wambrechies. Drink it the traditional way, ice-cold in a tulip glass filled to the brim, try an aged korenwijn neat like a fine whisky, or swap it into a Martinez or Old Fashioned. Not sure where to start? Visit our shop on the Vismarkt in Utrecht and we will pour you a taste.
